Mortgage rates
As a point of historical reference, the September 24, 2020 Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Survey reported that the 30-year fixed mortgage rate averaged 2.90%, the 15-year fixed averaged 2.40%, and the 5-year ARM averaged 2.90%. Those record-low pandemic-era rates have since shifted considerably. U.S. existing-home sales and prices soared in August 2020
The National Association of Realtors reported that U.S. existing-home sales hit 6 million in August 2020 on a seasonally adjusted yearly basis — 10.5% higher than in August 2019 and the highest monthly total since December 2006. Prices surged as well, with the national median home price jumping more than 11% from the prior year. That momentum set the stage for the sustained appreciation that Calabasas and surrounding communities have continued to experience in the years since.
